Type species: Ceriopora dichotoma Goldfuss, 1827
Synonyms | Author | Type Species |
---|---|---|
Pseudoceriopora | Brood 1972 | Ceriopora dichotoma Goldfuss, 1827 |
This genus includes the species:
(Goldfuss, 1827) | Cretaceous (Maas.) | Netherlands, Germany, Sweden | WoRMS 1438288 | |
Canu & Bassler, 1922 | Late Cretaceous Maastrichtian | Netherlands | WoRMS 1438289 | |
Canu & Bassler, 1922 | Recent | South Africa | WoRMS 472409 |
The extract below, from Brood 1972, argues that the specimens used by Canu & Bassler (1922) to establish the genus "Grammascosoecia" were not the same species as the material identified as Ceriopora dichotoma Goldfuss, 1827, from the Netherlands, Germany and Sweden. He stated that new genus name (Pseudoceriopora) is required for this species. On the contrary, the Goldfuss species remains the type species for Grammascosoecia, although based on an apparent misidentification. Another genus name may be needed for the specimens described by Canu & Bassler (1922). Pseudoceriopora is an objective junior synonym of Grammascosoecia.
The identification of the Recent species Grammascosoecia? porosa as congeneric with Grammascosoecia dichotoma seems unlikely. Further revision is necessary.
