Chaperia acanthina is found in the Recent of the southern hemisphere. It has also been reported from Japan. The specimen illustrated is from southeast Australia, and is likely to be a distinct species.
Original description: Flustra acanthina Lamouroux, 1824; recorded from the Falkland Islands.
