Restudy by Landing, Antcliffe & Brasier (2014) and Landing, Antcliffe, Brasier, & English (2014) has provided further evidence of its relationship as a bryozoan, and its distinction from the pennatulaceans, whose first record is from the Early Mesozoic. Pywackia is therefore restored as the earliest known bryozoan
